This will reduce the history size to the specified limit on each expire. You will still be able to access old messages by article number, but message ID lookups will only function for new items (Usually for a few days, depending on the size of your spool and feed).

It's not the problem of the size of the spool. Instead, it's the size of history.dat which has the limit of 2G.
