Hi,
Have you confirmed the old messages are on the server?
You need to do this by telnetting in and checking manually as many clients will still display headers for messages already removed from the server.
Not that you need instucting, but here are the detaild -
telnet server.example.com 119 group group.name head xxx
The value for xxx should be the third number returned from the server. The first is the status code, the second an estimate of the number of articles in the group, and the last two are the lowest and highest article numbers in the group. Requesting the oldest should give an idea of how far back the news goes on the upstream server.

Hi,
The rebuild_index should not renumber articles. I believe there was a bug in recent versions of DNews that caused renumbering. If you are using the most recent version this shouldn't occur.
Indeeed, it didn't. Unfortunatly i can't get back the older messages, although i did a rebuild_index and getold * 999999. Any suggestions for this?
Kind regards,
Marcel
