Nevermind! Forget what I wrote - I mistakenly tested with ASCII instead of Jessie, sorry! Adam Sampson was spot on: On Jessie, downgrading libpoppler46 to 0.26.5-2+deb8u1 allows to get around the bug that is perfectly reproducible with ...+deb8u3.
