So I agree with your sentiments, and some more - I'd go as far 
as to say that the mainstream web-browser is a major threat to 
free software, individual privacy, personal autonomy and the 
environment. Quite an achievement actually.

However, note that Edward was writing:

I believe youtube only works with javascript enabled, so it is 
quite possible that the slow feedback is caused by some javascript
nonsense.

My solution to such problems is to avoid sites which require 
javascript.

I am told one shouldn't read the youtube comments anyway, so best not 
to write them in the first place too.
