I tend to disagree to this marketing definition of a domain name.
For me, a domain name is a name that consists of labels seperated by a
dot that is resolvable through the DOMAIN name system.

Any name that consists of labels seperated by dots but is not present
in a domain name system is just that: A name with dots in them. Maybe
that same name scheme is used in other protocols as well, but that
does not make a name a domain name.

I don't considder these other names with dots in them inferior, but
they are simply not domain names.
