  Indeed, "exposed" is inappropriate; so is "described".

  Reference to _describing_ the problem statement (perhaps as
  "elegant" or "clumsy"; "long-winded" or "concise") isn't what's
  needed here.

  I suggest any one of "presented", "declared", or "specified".
