Hi Piet! This is PowerDNS.

The 'aa' might not be right but if a nameserver cannot satisfy the question
because the CNAME points to something that does not exist, it should give
out a SERVFAIL.

If I'm mistaken, please let me know! I can easily fix this.

Mad incompetence of the operator :-)

Try it with BIND, it does (or did) the same thing, with the possible
exception of the aa bit.

This is not in any way bound to AAAA btw, the same would happen with 'A'.
