Hi,
I have seen similar solutions in printed multi-volume books (of course, none of
them are at hand to check).
The point would be that if a user opens one volume and hits CTRL+F to search for
something, he gets an idea which volume he should open, even if it is not in the
current volume.
I haven't thought much about the display of the Toc and the index yet. I guess
the global index could include the title of the volume in addition to the page
number, or simply a volume id.

That's an interesting plan. What would the global TOC and index look
like in each book? Would the references to sections in other books
include the book title and URL?
In the text, I already use olinks, if the global Toc could create olinks as
well, that would be awesome. But if I could add a global toc without links to
every volume (in addition to the normal toc of the volume) I would be happy :)

And would the fewer references to
sections in the opened book be traditional page number?
Your question made me think of the Eclipse infocenter. One of the
things I like the most about the infocenter is that it provides a
unified TOC and index for all your doc plugins/books.

Hi All,
I have a large book that I would like to split up into several smaller,
interlinked books. The plan is to create separate book elements for the
separate books, but include a global TOC and index in each. I thought that
docbook sets were the way to do this, but it seems that sets are used to
merge separate books into a single one. I've tried googling, but to no
avail.
Is there a way to do it?
Thanks and Regards,
Robert
