To those who have mentioned roundtripping from DocBook to InDesign, what happens to
the formatting tweaks applied in InDesign when you go back to DocBook, which has no
formatting attributes? Processing instructions?

Based on your experience , can you please briefly elaborate on the
main problems you may anticipate in developing a DB-ICML roundtrip
scenario?
My concern is a generic one about the idea of roundtripping in general
rather than a specific concern about ICML.
any modification made in inDesign during the fine tuning of the
typography (trimmed paragraph, change in the body text due to layout
contraints and the like).
You're right that changes in the text would be desirable to
reintegrate, but doing DocBook->ICML->InDesign should leverage
InDesign's InCopy functionality. This might make it easier to change
the DocBook source and do a quick InCopy update.
