Indeed, the "ns" stylesheets are generated from the non-namespaced stylesheets using a script to add the namespace prefixes. That keeps the two sets precisely in sync, but leads to oddities like this. I'll look at the build process and try to turn off generating the slides directory for the ns distribution.

I suspect the entire 'docbook-xsl' set of files was converted to be
namespace-aware by means of some scripting.
Not all of the newly generated files are meaningful right now. I believe
someone has been working on a new version of the slides vocabulary that
will be based on DocBook 5, at which point these stylesheets may be
useful again.
