i like this very very much! i had completely forgotten about it.
Before we make this turn I'd like to:
- hear what others have to say about this - discuss whether it's a goodness
Assuming that we use this new (old?) idea:
Do we want *only* images (or their html equivalents) on the front page? No menus?
Do we want abstracts as we have them now? If so how do they fit into the square boxes?
i suggest we email him the current stylesheet, in which we have about 8 different colours not counting black and white.
I hope I'll be able to find who has submitted this to me. But that's later.

if he uses that for an excact colour-scheme to the square boxes it would be quite great i think, and would make some sense instead of more or less random colours as now.
if he can do an image of that we all think is great i can implemt the html as we obviously dont want a mega gif/png on the front page.

On the other hand we can put nice things on the top, so they will take a whole page and the current sub-dirs with abstracts will go down, so you always have to scroll to get there. The result: you never see the menu and the duplicated links on the same page and it doesn't ruin the front page.
personally i prefer a go at the square-box idea with the "teaser-text" a bit more detailed than in the current png (perhaps just the same text as on the first 3 current paragraphs)?
