hmm, I doubt all this will look nicely. But let's try. the cool thing about this guys proposal was that there was nothing else on the page, which made it unique. if we load it with other stuff, it gets noisy. but one picture worth a thousand words, I need to see how is it going to look.

As I mentioned before the idea is interesting, but it's hard to make it right. Looking at Allan's snapshot I see these problems:
- it's hard to read the dark text off the dark bg.
Ideally you should find a constrasting color for every square. But I'm not sure if it'll add to an abstraction.
- when you do the front page this way, as a user, I'd expect the rest of the site to keep the same theme and we don't.
IMHO, a page with only boxes as the original creator did is much cleaner and simpler. It's like a cover of the book, with the TOC and navigation following the cover.
Hmm, me thinking -- leave the /index.html as is, but insert a 'splash page' as the entrance?
