process in next meeting.
* Wiki doc versioning - mkt inputs - marking done. will discuss in
other part of agenda.
* SXCE doc - Alan discussed with Alta to better understand issue
(currently docs are duplicated on dsc and dlc and because of some
automated and some manual processes, there's no guarantee they are
in sync. Kathleen to set up meeting to discuss with doc managers.
Marking closed. Giving Kathleen action item to set up meeting to
discuss.
*Release notes/what's new*
* The location of release notes is changing for the 2008.11 release
to a URL that identifies them to be release specific. Marty Duey
suggested we create some kind of "dev" version of them for ongoing
issues that are only relevant to regular development builds.
* Glynn also working on a What's New document for 2008.11. This is
*not* on Live CD. Instead, it is hosted on the .com site.
* Glynn is willing to take inputs via email and for another week or
two. Let's call it 11/12.
*Docs community site update*
* Alan noted that he has posted link for docs community site update
for comment/review:
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/documentation/HomeTest/.
* Have received some inputs on initial version, with main comment
being it was too focussed on "the release." This is slight mod
trying to address that.
* Welcome more input. Will try to finalize this and start working on
linked pages soon.
*Versioning wiki docs - part deux*
* Follow-up from last meeting...Glynn's input from product marketing
is that it would be ideal to provide a snapshot of any wiki docs
at the time of release. The .com site would then have links to
these static snapshots.
* Looks like Frank Jenning's and company have tools in place to
transform wiki docs from wiki to branded HTML, so we believe we
can provide a snapshot like this.
* Based on conversation and long discussion that ensued, which
largely dealt with how to handle any issues that show up in the
static document, we agreed on the following proposal:
o We use in-house tools to produce static, .com branded
versions of wiki docs.
o The wiki doc continues to be a live document reflecting
changes in development and any other updates.
o If there is a P1 level bug against the static, .com branded
document, we address it, editing directly in the html if
necessary.
*Wiki collaboration model*
* There are many wiki collaboration models available, from closed
site to site that allows comments to site that allows open
editing.... what do we want to do with our wiki docs?
* Diane asks if we can have two-level of inputs... 1) trusted /
registered users can edit files and 2) anyone can comment.
* Cindy asks, how do you decide who's trusted. Do we want to impose
OSOL procedss for core contributor before letting someone
participate? Said if we really want community collaboration, we
make the barrier of entry low (register and log in.)
* Paul, emphasizes that moderators are the key to making this model
work. Not wild west.
* Paul adds that we need to define what moderators can/should do?
* At end of discussion, arrived at following proposal for wiki
collaboration:
o We have an open editing policy and registered community
members can edit pages.
o Each wiki doc has a moderator who's role is
+ Watch pages for updates
+ Work with contributors to help with consistency of
style, clarity, etc.
+ Remove anything inappropriate
*Status*
* Core docs (GSG and spinoffs, IPS) made RC1 build.
* Internal / community testing in another week or two.
* Kelly said team gave demos to Rich Green and Jonathan yesterday.
Some change requests. Will be talking at core. Possible names
changes and apps on the welcome page. Could affect docs.
*Miscellaneous*
* Paul asked, does Prod. Mkt. wants version of docs on docs.sun.com?
* Alan said from conversation with Glynn, didn't think this was a
requirement, but thought it generally useful to provide some
access to the OpenSolaris
<http://infoshare.sfbay/twiki/bin/view/Main/OpenSolaris> docs via
DSC.
