When looking at the current formal doc set (docs.sun.com) the docs that really appear to be dogging are the Basic and Advanced Admistrators Guides. These docs are _ancient_. On the Thursday call there was mention of documents that had hundreds of authors over a long period of time... these both certainly fall into that category.
Is there anyone who has a desire or plan to rewrite these docs in the modern era? I'm not sure we can even simply modernize these docs. For instance, auditing disturbs me chief of all, as the old SysV auditing system is described, despite the fact that any modern reader is certainly looking for information regarding BSM. Work needs to be done, the question is, will this be a formal replacement that will also pertain to Solaris 10, or should we in the external community take up a project to create a new fresh document? I've had a desire to create an "OpenSolaris Field Guide" as a stylized and hip replacement for these docs, as one possible solution. benr.
