Thanks for taking time to comment on the docs. I am the lead writer for the two
books you mention in your post. As always, comments on the docs are greatly
appreciated.

Yes, the SysV auditing system content in the advanced guide is old, but still
part of the Solaris release. I included a link to the extended accounting
information in that section, but I also need to include a link to the BSM
information. Thanks
for that reminder.

Because the bulk of my time is spent documenting new features, for multiple
releases,
I find myself with less time to actually go through the books each release to
ensure that older content is updated.

About 30 Solaris features are documented in both books, and although there is
quite of bit of legacy information that is carried in the books, the books are
updated each release with new features, such as GRUB-style booting and the PPD
printing features, which are now part of a new printing guide.

The problem, which I think you've touch upon, is that all the system
administration books, still use a format from the "old days."

I agree wholeheartedly that the issue here is more about modernizing the docs
and moving away from an ancient style into a fresh new style of documentation,
or at least having alternate methods for delivering documentation to our
customers. Unfortunately, because we only publish one official book on d.s.c.
per release, we sometimes do need to carry legacy information in our books
for the entire release. But, I think that now, more than ever, the docs need
to change to meet the changing needs of our customers. We have actually have
been moving in this direction, with more information moving to FAQ and Wikis.

If you would like to send me other problems you have found with these two books,
I'd be glad to work on making any necessary updates. Feel free to continue to
send issues to docs-discuss or open a documentation bug.

Thanks again for voicing your opinion and letting me know about these issues.
I'll continue to work on making the documentation better.
