No, SUNWgnome-xml-share does not depend on the GNOME desktop.
The name is mostly historical, SUNWdocbook would be a better name.

I don't really see a problem with that.

This directory structure is not my invention though, it mirrors
Red Hat.  Not because it's the right thing to do, but because
I couldn't find anyone knowledgeable enough to sort out the
stylesheets mess in Solaris and maintain it long term.  So I
looked for implementations that worked.  SuSE and Red Hat were
okay but Red Hat's structure was a lot cleaner and the build
recipes were readable, unlike SuSE's.

In fairness, unless someone wants to take over the maintenance of
the docbook stylesheets in Solaris, I'd prefer not to diverge from
the Red Hat specs so that I can easily update to a newer version
using their recipes.

I looked at the 1.72.0 xsl stylesheets and it seems easy enough
to upgrade if we keep the structure as it is.  Please file an RFE.
