I agree with your problem statement. Using search is the only real workaround, but this is not a complete solution because of character sets and, again, navigation issues. Just for some Friday fun, I've added links to the translated SXDE 5/07 installation documentation collections (Sun mostly translates install docs for Solaris) and OSOL student guides in the various languages to the main docs community page here: http://opensolaris.org/os/community/documentation/ It doesn't really imply a fix to the much bigger problem you have raised, but it does demonstrate the organization you need on a micro-scale.
