Bug ID: 70079
Summary: “Welcome!” directly links to Download page
Product: Apache httpd-2
Version: 2.5-HEAD
Hardware: All
URL: https://httpd.apache.org/#download
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Documentation
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
The homepage ends with a Downloads section which contains:
> Get the latest release from the download page. Please verify your downloads.
“download page” labels a direct link to https://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi
Except for Windows, the download page only covers downloading vanilla source,
and tells users they should “enter the web of trust”. While the Compiling and
Installing page also mentions that possibility, it offers less eccentric
options, installing from some package managers.
I recommend to replace that section with a link to
https://httpd.apache.org/docs/trunk/en/install.html
The homepage should be focused on the use case (installation) rather than on a
specific method/step.
