Hello I use a Mac and one thing you have to remember is not to use the key marked Ctrl (control), which Windows uses. Mac OS uses the command key for keyboard shortcuts, that is the one each side of the space bar with the funny little graphic. Sometimes has an apple on it also, but that depends on what age your keyboard is.
For example, in MS Office open is Command + O, save as is Shift + Command + S. The MS Office shortcuts follow the Mac OS system and are slightly different to Windows or Linux. Hope that helps.
