On my '94 Concorde the ABS system has been applying without need and
at first the warning light does not come on. When it applies, the
braking is too extreme, along with, of course the sound of the ABS
motor working. After the first application, it sometimes will return
to normal braking but at that time the warning light has come on and
at first stayed on until the system was reset after turning the car
off. When turned back on, the warning light is off as it should be,
and the ABS system might or might not react as previously described.
After a few weeks of this activity, the warning light now stays on
as if the system is in a locked default, and braking actually seems
a little challenged. I have checked all connections for being
connected on the sensors, but not taken off and cleaned. The car is
driven down a dirt road from time to time. Have questioned whether
this could fault out a sensor at the wheels. According to the
manual the fault will now have to be cleared by a tech with a DRB
II. I would appreciate any ideas on this problem, and its possible
fix. As long as the warning light is on, there is no ABS
application. Not good coming into winter!
