I got it taken care of today.

First I tried a safety pin to see if I could wedge it under the CD, no
dice.

So I took a old scratched up CD and just kept inserting it to trigger
the loading mechanism and after about 5 or 6 hard insertions, I heard
a small noise and the stuck CD dropped in and started playing.

It ejected normally and my CD player is no longer held hostage.

Thanks to all who responded. I was NOT looking forward to taking the
head unit out.
