Following on with the discussion about the check engine light, I have
a problem that seems to be getting worse each week on my 98 ES.

It started with the airbag light coming on after a few minutes, after
starting out on a really cold morning. Before too long, the check
engine light would come on and then the RPM and speedo fail, along
with the temp gauge. The performance of the car is apparently
unaffected by this, and as long as I could estimate the speed to
avoid tickets, everything was ok. After about 15 to 20 minutes, the
alarm will sound and the airbag light will go out and then the check
engine light will follow. The gauges will come back again and this
will go on for about another 5 to 10 minutes, on again, off again,
and then eventually, everything will come back. During the summer
months, it was not a problem.

I moved to Florida and sometimes throught the winter, when the temp
dropped to freezing or close to it, it would occasionally happen. The
past winter, it happens everytime that we go out in the car, whether
or not it's hot, mild or cold.

I've taken it to 2 dealerships and they tell me that there are no
codes showing and it must be an electrical problem. One of the
dealerships had the car overnight, but they said that everything was
normal the next morning.

Question, where do I start looking? I'm afraid to take it to a
dealership because they can't give me an estimate of how long it
would take to find a problem like that. Does anyone have any ideas?

I would have fixed the problem by now if it had affected the
peformance of the car, or, had not been intermittant. It's more of a
nuisance than anything else.

Thanks for any help that you can give me,

Regards,

Dave
