The transmission shop ought to be able to substantiate their diagnosis. These transmissions are electronically controlled, and have on-board diagnostics. Did they tell you why they thought it needed a rebuild? Did they mention stuff like clutch volume indexes, trouble codes, or the like?
If not, you need to either go back to them and find out how they diagnosed it, or find a different shop. A fluid/filter change might do wonders; it also might be $50 wasted. For $1500, it's probably worth a shot. I wouldn't put ATF+4 into it; ATF+3 is more than adequate and far less expensive. If the trans fluid has never been changed, your chances that that will fix the problem are much better than they are if it has been changed regularly with the right stuff. --Geoff On 8/3/05, williweichselbaumer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > 1995 Intrepid 3.5 es - 60,000 miles > > the transmission has a delayed shift into gear (forward or reverse > when it is cold) it is ok when it is warm except during the winter I > has two ocassons when it wouldn't shoft up for about 3 miles until. > > The transmission shop thinks a complete rebuild is necessary ~1500$ > > Do you think a simple change to ATF4+ could resolve the problem? > > Thanks, > > Willi > > > > > Web: <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dodge_intrepid> > Subscribe: <mailto://[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Unsubscribe: <mailto://[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Moderator: <mailto://[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Yahoo!
