Kelly, I'd change that fluid and filter. It sounds like the compounds in the fluid that are designed to prevent shudder are worn out. Is this the original fluid in the transmission? If so, you're lucky you made it that far. On the other hand, if its been changed regularly, it could be that some non-Chrysler approved fluid or an additive were put in by whoever changed it. These transmissions are very sensitive to incorrect fluids, and require no additives, although there have been reports of dealerships padding the bottom line on the bill by installing additives. (They should know better.)
I'd hazard the shudder is coming from the torque converter, by the way. If the new fluid/filter doesn't change the situation, you're facing the prospect of having it and the rest of the transmission rebuilt somewhere in the relatively near future.
