I'm interested in buying a 'Trep from about '96 or '97. I've read in a couple
of places about a tie-rod design problem that causes them to snap under normal
driving conditions, and which Chrysler refuses to acknowledge.

I've been reading this board for a couple of months now and haven't seen any
mention of this. Is this just one of those overblown "internet legends," or is
there something to it? If the stories are true, is there a pro-active fix that
can be applied, such as cranking up the torque on the existing bolts, or
installing new, stronger tie rods?

Thanks for any advice.

Ted
