It is a common failure point on many Mopars, actually...not just
Intrepids.

What I usually do is replace hose with a new one (because it makes a
better seal where the fitting goes if there is no oil on it when you put
it on, and hoses are cheap) and use a screw-type clamp on it. Do not
overtighten. Keep the same diameter hose, as well.

Never cut the hose and refit, as this will make the hose slightly
shorter, and when the engine rocks/tilts, it will be putting extra
strain on pulling on this nipple...which is one of the reasons it
becomes loose in the first place. Cutting and putting back on the hose
also will not make a clean seal on it because of said oil problem inside
the hose, mentioned above...which can also lead to a slow leak.

Cheers.

Subject: [dodge_intrepid] Next Saga: Tranmission Leak

Howdy folks -- didja miss me?

During my adventure with my 1996 Intrepid 3.5L's problem with the
cooling
system (see previous emails), I noticed that there were drops of
transmission
fluid on the ground each time I parked it.

Yike!

After much "hrm"ing and "haw"ing, I discovered the leak eminating from
the
upper compression fitting that fits the solid line from the top of the
little
transmission cooler core (in front of the rad) to the rubber hose that
leads
back to the tranny.

Upon looking at the forums on dodgeintrepid.net, I found a few posts
that
complained about this. One mentioned that he thought that this point
was a
common failure point in these cars.
