Hi, I arrived in Canada from England a month ago and bought a 2001 2.7 V6 Intrepid with 60k miles and 3 month warranty. I checked the oil & coolant level at the weekend. The oil was fine but the coolant seemed low so I took it down to the local independent garage. He recommended a pressure test on the cooling system which turned out to be fine but he mentioned the serious problems with this 2.7 V6 engine and recommended I sell the car before getting to 100k miles, get the oil changed every 3k miles and use synthetical oil.
Used Canadian cars usually don't have any maintenance history info available (unlike the UK, cars there are almost unsaleable without it) so I'm seriously worried as to what condition this might be in. I think it was a female owner which gives some hope that there has maybe been dealer service. I buy my garage's advice and wonder if anyone can point me to a recommended maintenance regime or other set of fixes to minimize the sludge and other problems with this model?
