Most likely it is the clockspring, which is a part inside the steering wheel
that helps control the airbag as well as the cruise usually.
Mine went out several years ago ('96 3.5L).
Unfortunately, the part itself is well over $150 and labor to install is
considerable (total price was something like $250 or more) so it's almost
never worth getting it done, unless you're really flush with cash.
