Hi

I've had this issue for about 3 years now where turning the ignition key
doesn't operate the starter motor. You can hear a noise of the electrical
connection being made (oddly, somewhere to the rear of the car) but the starter
motor isn't operated. After turning the key several times - sometimes even up
to 25-30 times - it will suddenly operate the starter motor and it starts fine.
The other thing is that it seems to be somewhat cyclical over time. It will
steadily get worse until it is really awful and then suddenly it will start
first time for a day or two and then it steadily gets worse and worse again
until it will suddenly be fine for a day or two. Very odd.

The garage replaced the starter motor when the problem began 3 years ago but
that didn't solve the problem. They've also fiddled around with the fuses but
that made no difference. The garage owner's wife suggested it might be an issue
with the ignition key mechanism. I've tried fiddling with other electrical
things like open/close windows etc when there is the problem, but they work
absolutely fine. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts. It's the 2.7 V6
2001.

Thanks

Pavesa
