Hi Dave,

I think the major difference between Mk 1 and 2 is the aileron system. The
earlier models had spring loaded ailerons as they didn't tend to naturally
return to the middle. These ones tend to be a little jerky on the ailerons and
feel strange to start with. You get used to them however. I do find them more
difficult to teach basic controls to students as there is not the same feel in
the system as you would be used to.

Watch for ..
Old style engine mounts - there should be gussets around the mount bolt
holes or they crack - engine out to fix.
Elevator bell horn - internal bolt holes elongate and become sloppy -
double skin fibreglass repair to fix.
Prop change bearings don't contact prop brake plate together - very common
and probably responsible
for the studs occasionally breaking.
Undercarriage rod end bearings not replaced - needs a hole cut in the
cockpit floor to the aft of the pedals on both sides.
Elevator rod end bearing not changed - the originals are not acceptable any
more
Cracking on undercarriage leg - there will always be slight cracking in the
filler / paint but make sure they aren't deeper.
Corrosion in aileron piano hinge - rivets start to pop out
Seized roller bearings inside wing aileron circuit - need to cut heaps of
holes to fix.
Main pins meet AD - some needed to be replaced.
Airbrakes can jam - try this... have someone try to open the brakes whilst
you place all your fingertips on one brake at a time and apply a little
backwards pressure.
Check bearings in wing root are not starting to work loose in the glass

  cheers
Rob

I have uncovered a few problems with my Dimona that are of
concern:
1. The seat belt anchor plates are plywood and have severe dry rot
and were not secure in their mounting boxes.
2. The wing spar boxes show some damage from the wings being
moved vertically while the spar is still in the box after the pins are drawn
back.
3. One of the landing gear bow bracket bolts was not properly
aligned and was loose.
These repairs are not too complicated but the seat belt issue is
a major life safety concern.
My ship has about 3000 hours on it so we are doing a very
comprehensive annual inspection in preparation for the major inspection due at
3000 hours.

Hi
All,

A
group of us in the UK are thinking of forming a Dimona syndicate and when I saw
your lists I thought I would take a chance and see if you can give any advice
on what to look for, problems etc.

Also
can anyone tell me what the differences are between the
Dimona
Mkl and Mkll's please.

Best
regards to all

Dave
