H iAll,

Probably covering really old ground, but I did have a little drama with
getting rod ends for the Dimona here.

I have had some past engineering contact with Rick Fisher from R R Fisher
and he was a great help. If you look at the Hoffman parts book and part
number , note the U/C rod ends are High tensile. Hence the X in the part
number plus is stamp'd on the thread end of the rod. Standard ones were
available ex stock but the HT ones had to be ordered from Germany especially
and were about 3 * the price of the std ones. But no drama.. they arrived
OK. Installation was a bit tricky though as access holes had to be cut in
the cockpit floor. I have a few pictures of that if any interest.

It seems this one had a busted U/C on arrival Australia, so did need some
work around the U/C attach points and all 4 rod ends were bent. I did
suspect that they were not HT though.

The elevator ones are interesting because of mismatched thread / hole size.
I used standard rod ends there and made the clearance around the ball end
bigger and bushed the hole to fit the normal bolts. Looks OK.

Lastly, the forward tailplane one .. I ordered that thru the local Diamond
agents .. Cost an arm, 2 legs and a lot more .. All up 1018.00 NZ$.
(includes GST, freight etc) It is not listed in the Hirshman catalog
However what turned up was 2 rod ends in 1 bag so I do have one spare if
required .. Price negotiable !!. It is also HT, along with the pin it
slides on (which was not in this Dimona) The pin was $150.00 It is
supposed to be a little shorter than the other two, but the one I received
was the same length. However there is no problem sliding the tailplane on
so all OK.

Best regards

For your information...

Dimona electric fuel pumps are at http://www.hardi.de/verge.htm

U/C rod ends are Hirschman. Not sure, but I imagine the elevator rod ends
would be Hirschman also. The main tailplane rod-end is a custom made

This is Gascolator fitted to Dimona XOO with a drain outside - it is mounted
just forward of the battery. Does anybody else dimona have this? I really
do not like the inline fuel filter our dimona has. In my opinion this is
the only safe way to go esp when using PULP 98 fuel as one day you will get
crap fuel from a service station.

We once had crap fuel soon after the tank at S/s had been topped up and this
stirred up all the crap and we got a dose of it - must admit that was 15
years ago.

I guess an EO or SB is needed to fit same but in my opinion there should be
a rule if you increase safety significantly then an EO is not needed. When
we did Jabiru install in a Falke Dafydd L insisted we must have Gascolator,
a sump added to tank + a finger filter in the tank where fuel is drawn from.
He has had experience with crapy car fuel from the good old days

Second att is a NACA air inlet as well as ball vent on the inside. It is
brilliant compared to the sort of NACA duct on top of cowl in a low
pressure area. Basically thi ones is same as in HK36 except it goes direct
into cockpit and works better than HK36 NACA is correct shape in line with
air flow and has top of wing profile to suck the air into the NACA. It is a
Vans NACA. I thought I best test to see if gases were coming it on the RH
side so used a multigas tester and highest was 8PPM CO which is all but zero
