4 or 5 years ago we got a Sauer S2500 engine 92hp (VW look a like but much more fins on heads) and when speaking to the guys there he said "use whatever you use in your auto" and he said 10W50 should be OK for AUS. Thus I have always used Castrol Magnatec 10W40 He did say in the last life of engine and or if it starts using oil (TBO 1600hr) you can change to 20W50
In old days when Geoff Sim owned HDS G109A he used Castrol XL 20W50 for the full life of engine. I use 10W40.in Falke L2000 and it has done 500hrs and can go 33hrs without adding any oil and the whole engine is dry as. I thought VW were supposed to have oil leak. I use a Jabiru type collection bottle with ss scour pad inside in breather line and it usually has 30cm of oil in bottle at 33 hrs. I can say I got a dynamic prop balance and it really does help. I also use prop tape but I cut with z edge which in theory is better than a straight line. I have also added a bit more of a bat wing deflector between the cylinders and a jet of air onto the Slick magneto (last service the coil was like new). Limbach are GREAT engines and seems so stupid the life is only 1000hrs. Interesting the Swiss consider the life of engine is 1100hrs tacho (the extra 100hrs is ground time and thus need not be logged as engine hours). Many flying schools have their 100 hly issued for 110 hrs tacho and oil change is listed at 55hrs tacho. I did talk to Edwin re this but he suggested I find a device that only logs flight time. This is no probs with electronic tacho and use an air switch or what I like is UMA tacho and meter can be set by owner and I set at 1600revs to cut in. Thus I can usually taxi for no engine units but most others can not.
