Ian, please tell me you wore a dust mask when you did this!
Cats contain an extreme concentration of just about every nasty known to man.
Its a good idea to soak the inners first in water to hold down any contaminants
flying around while cleaning out.

Hey Phil 6 months ago my car was the same and I did plugs and was about to do
leads when an old flying friend and also car mechanic said maybe it
is catalytic converter. (my previous cars never had such an item)  I removed
front end of converter and with hammer and big screwdriver I smashed up the
catalytic stuff then sucked it out with vacuum cleaner and bingo it goes up a
hill like a V8 AND I can drive from Tamworth to Byron on a full tank of gas and
keep driving for a few more days. My friend said no worries with Holden and no
catalytic converter as computer does not require same.

Some of us recall playing tricks on our car-owner mates by bunging a potato
into the end of their exhaust pipe.
