Hi All, Interesting info on fuel storage life. Rob was saying a while back that ULP should be stored well away from any direct light ie in darkness Anyone have any thoughts on what contribution this might make to fuel life compared with it sitting on a shelf somewhere. I'm also wondering just how much improvement storage in steel containers can provide. Any ideas from you own investigations John? The MSDS on Shell 98 which we have been using states the requirement for storage in metal containers. What is it about storage in a full to the brim plastic jerry can that allows the breakdown?

Manganese and Toluene were the reason for the problems with the resins in Dimona fuel tanks. Also others including BMW cars. I came across a problem when I changed to 98 mogas last year. First signs were higher head temps. After tidying up baffles and airflow without much success I was speaking to a friend who races motorbikes and he had similar problems. To cut a long story short we had fuels tested in a laboratory in Adelaide. 98 mogas stored in a plastic jerrycan turned into 91 octane in 14 days. Not quite as bad in metal container but still bad. It seems that mogas "goes off " very quickly so only use when fresh and from a source that has a quick turn over. I note the 100LL replacement in Europe is 91 octane. Cheers, John. I did not think I would read "do not use Shell 98 and consider using 95 because of Toluene". I think they only mean Shell 98 otherwise they would not name them. I do know PIK20E has glass tank and not sure what others. >Ian McPhee > >http://www.jabiru.net.au/images/Blurb_fuel_winter.pdf > > > >__._,_.___ >Reply via web post Reply to sender Reply to group Start a New Topic >Messages in this topic (1) >Recent Activity: * New Members 3 >Visit Your Group > >Switch to: Text-Only, Daily Digest • Unsubscribe • Terms of Use • Send us >Feedback >. > >__,_._,___ >
