Hi Ian. Limbach use Wacker Elastosil N189 on the thread and both sides of the washer. About 6 years ago they changed to flange nuts and did away with the washers and lock nuts relying on the Elastosil to lock the nuts thus you then apply it to all the nuts not just the lower ones exposed to oil. Cheers. Nige.

It is ideally for fuel tanks (offer used in Tiger moths) & works work with oil. Expensive & LAME will always have same but I buy from aircraft spruce. eg if you ever get a crack & oil leak in rear RHS lower L2000 engine it will fix it. I cast an aluminium bung & it gets led in with say 3mm thick proseal. Deacon or JB weld metal epoxy is useless trust me. Years ago we had a NZ wing tip tank Pawnee. It would always crack tanks each 2 years but proseal over joins after welding it never ever leaked again Guess bit off the topic. When I put the engine back together I did not seal the washers of the 4 lower head studs. It hasn’t been a real problem actually … there is a slight oil presence on the stainless steel under the engine. However I thought I would seal them off now. So my question is ..What product is generally used to seal under the washers? (thus sealing totally any seepage thru the lower head studs from the rocker gear). Best regards Ian Williams ZK-GCB
