On oct1 bom introduced a new weather satellite which gives 10min updates (was 1hr)
It is available on top left of satellite page but pre dawn you must go down bottom LHS and click infra red+zehr. You can see the MGs form about 2 to 3 am in NE corner then like a freight train roll in from the NE either 10 to 20 deg to coast line. Enclosed is photo as it went through Normanton Karumba at about 5.20 Qld time. I have watched them Mon Tue & now today this week and each day the 3 gliders just walk into them. Also with this and you can get predictions for humidity for the next 10 days and 72hrs ahead they are quite accurate. Here are my thoughts as am having 100 % correct at the moment. TIDES ... there are usually huge tides in the gulf and only one high and low each day. It is where the east coast tides meet the west coast tides & ideally you want a SMALL difference between high and low like this week. This means the shallow water of gulf moves much less during the day and thus warms up. Go to bom marine & look at water temp and this week is 28° or RED on BOM map. This results it high evaporation thus high humidity. My phone app weatherPro HD gives humidity for next 10 days and is 100% accurate at predicting wet wings at dawn 3 days out and warns you well ahead of possible MGs mornings. On the morning I use Weatherzone as it updates each 10 min and I flick quickly through nearby humidity at Mornington & Normanton looking for 80% or better. You still need cool N replacement air coming in during the pm before. Look at image below as it crosses Karumba early this morning. We really need to watch how it forms at around 2 or 3 am. The other photo is from Geoff pratt s pik 20e yesterday & got to 7000ft (no photos thismorning yet) One day Geoff will 1000km up there. It seems like the magic of it is all now in the past thanks to the new Japanese weather satellite of Oct 1 My 2c worth & am afraid the mystery is gone. Next MGs besides tomorrow around 22, 23, 24 at this stage Ian Mc Phee 0428847642 Box 657 Byron Bay NSW 2481
