All Ole Hartman of Aircraft Kits Taree recommends this start procedure for the reasons Ian states.
Ole is an expert in these motors. His email is above if you want to discuss with him. Some versions you can not do this without modifications. For the benefit of the non-rotax DOG people, the rotax ignition system creates two sparking points.... one normal timing and one retarded for starting. Zener diodes are supposed to filter out the first spark at cranking speeds but often it doesn't - resulting in the engine stopping dead when cranking. I think maybe the simplest option being a couple of diodes that are switched in when the starter button is pressed and then disengaged when the button is released. I suspect the Rotax module may be big buck$ for what is probably a a very basic circuit. regards Rob Rob Thompson 0429 493 828 (Please note that my new email address is [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> ) <http://www.avg.com/email-signature?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=emailclient> Virus-free. <http://www.avg.com/email-signature?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=emailclient> www.avg.com
