HI all.
Whilst trying to trace the source of an overcharging issue (no its not the
regulator and the battery is fine) i was struck by the notion that our dimonas
present another problem with regard to fire management. Our batteries (see
ignition source) are on the cockpit side of the firewall near a thin walled
STEEL fuel line and a rubber hose (mine is one of them Steel braid Teflon
jiggers) full of oil that feeds the brakes (thats in my case at least- i
realise some may still be using brake fluid). While the terminals should be
adequately shielded from mischief there is still the potential (ie from
inadvertent non secured and chaffed battery leads etc. Should we be giving that
area a good coating of fire proof paint as well. Might particularly be an issue
for those that use exotic batteries that have a history of runaway “much bad
hotness”. Geeze just thinking on- then there’s underneath the fuel tank where
our electricated lift pumps are. Am i paranoid or is this reasonable thinking?
I would really like to get this sorted out shortly as i have a form 2 coming up.

Thoughts?
Discussion?
Wisdom?
Not so wis..domy..ish stuff?
Can of worms?
Cheers

Subject: [DOG mailing list] H36 Asbestos firewall backing

G'day All,
I lifted up a small section of the H36 Dimona Stainless steel firewall and
there is a 3mm layer of asbestos sheet lagging underneath.
Asbestos is the world's best fire and heat insulation but EXTREMELY dangerous
if you breathe it, so be careful if you ever have to disturb it.
regards
Rob
