Does anyone have any info on how to test the condition of the existing fire
proof paint, ie the stuff on the belly behind the bottom air outlet grill

Harry Mason did a bit of research this morning (finally dug up parts etc) about
the stuff between firewall and glass in Diamond s and here are his results. It
is not asbestos it seems.

I can assure you all the diamonds at Gold Coast (seems a lot) they have taken
the fire proof paint seriously.

Found it!
The white stuff between the Stainless firewall and the fibreglass is Ceramic
Mat "Kaowool 1260" 6mm thick , about 40 Euro per metre
It is attached using Bonding Agent "Gluecon 1000, about 10 euro per kilo

Thank's Ian,
I had some of that Fire resistant white stuff from between the firewall and the
fibreglass firewall, it comes as a blanket about 3/16 to 1/4 inch, and is
applied as a sheet and bonded, then the stainless firewall is bonded to it.
I will see if I can dig out a part number for it.

Hi Cath,

actually the paint manufacturers instructions shall be used acc. to our AMM:
[cid:[email protected]]
Those are usually part of the shipment but can also be found at the
manufacturers website. Alternatively if you can´t get hold of them we should
also have those manuals at our disposal.
The document you found on the internet is actually a summary of the individual
technical data sheets. I attached the one for the 9008B099D clear coat for your
reference, it´s available on the PPG Aerospace website.

Regarding the usage of materials: Yes, indeed, currently only PPG Products are
approved for our A/C. I know that because I had a similar request from one of
our SCs in Australia about two weeks ago and already clarified it with our
engineering.
They wanted to use some alternative products because the specific paint needed
seemed not to be available in Australia. We don´t recommend to use alternative
products, since only the PPG ones have undergone our certification tests.
