I did a Google, and a trawl through my spam bin.

I unsubscribed from a newsletter coming from ConstantContact, which it is 
entirely possible a previous owner of the address consented to, but which I'd 
been feeding to spam assassin every month :)

However nothing I found that was recent was compelling that CC are doing 
anything but legitimate email marketing. They clearly did have some issues a 
few years back, but can anyone point to incoming spam.

They clearly allow opt-out for companies you have previously done business 
with, but haven't specifically excluded your email address from being used, 
but that is fairly normal practice, sometime annoying but not unethical.
