I believe tucows can dominate the domain drop auction system for three
reasons. 1) They have a derth of exclusive inventory. 2) They are an
ethical company. 3) The other players with the exception of snapnames,
act unethically.
Pool dominated the market, got greedy, rigged the auction system, and
started grabbing names for themselves. Guess what, people started
deleting their drop list and using enom instead.
Now enom has now started down the same road as pool.
Tucows is in a unique position to capitalize on the market and provide
some honest competition which will force the other registrars to play nice.
Could you imagine a world where the only registrar was Network Solutions
?? We'd be paying three times as much for domains, big companies like
UltmateSearch could call an NSI employee and your renewal notice would
not get sent out and your CC payment wouldn't be accepted. 1 minute
after your domain expired, UltimateSearch would own it and They'd want
five or six figures to transfer it back.
That's the way it was before competition.
Prove it. Even for the most pie-in-the-sky (sex.com) overpriced
domains, I do not believe there's significant type-in traffic. People
type into search engines, not browser bars.
Take a look around you. There is a whole industry based on type-in traffic.
Behind the exploitation curve? You bet.
More BS.
> Market., shmarket, farket. Why not monetize your dirty diapers?
I have two Grand Children that can fill'em up faster then you can yell
EUREKA! People fight over who's going to change the little gold mines next.
There's a buck to be made by some exploitative farqers every minute, I
guess. I'd rather sleep at night and leave sex.com (for instance)
available for someone who happens on it to provide legitimate sex
information, and maybe saves a life or two with it.
That's nice but I doubt the millions of people visiting sex.com are
going there to read your rant on safe sex.
You can't label an entire business model "unethical" because you don't
like the free market system. I don't own any adult or gambling domains
but you can bet your round ass I'd run my CC up to buy moneytree.com if
it came on the market because that's what that domain would be.
