I don't normally post to this list, but since it is going to a web forum system I will not be posting to it or reading it in the future. I like the push technology of email for things like this. Having to go out of my way to a web site to skim read some posts is a waste of my time.
With the technology available searches can certainly be done from email archives. A system that requires web posting is not the answer. Given the noticable outcry to the web forum idea hopefully someone at Tucows/OpenSRS realizes that the customer base (who has been involved enough in the past to be on the list) does not want a web forum system. It is their company and their decision to make, but it is my decision to forego the forums and if I have questions to telephone support instead of having read about it here. You basically told everyone who prefered the tried and true, time proven technology of mailing lists, that they were wrong. Yes, things do evolve, and email has as well. The other technology that has been cited has also evolved, but still serves the same basic purpose it was intended to when it was invented. Wheels, are still round and still make it easier to transport stuff since it is rolling and not sliding. Cars still make it easier and faster to go places than walking. The telephone still lets you communicate with people verbally over distances greater than normal speaking distances. Email still allows sending text to people over a network, and mailing lists to multiple people from one sender. Forums have their place (I guess, still not sure of a good use for them), but for a discussion group of this nature (this is a technology -- for some definition of technology -- group) I still think that email is the best, and easiest option in town. I will respond to reasonable discussion, but not troll bait. Michael ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael J.
