OK, my friends,
I'm Ed Contreras, and I was born 10/02/57. I live in the Mile High City
of Denver, Colorado, where it is currently around 57 degrees and partly
sunny. I make most of my living as a free-lance percussionist/drummer. I've
played on a bunch of local CDs and one nationally released CD. I played in
front of 80, 000 people here during World Youth Day in 1993, where I had the
privilege of meeting Pope John Paul II. I also work part time at a Target
store here in town when I'm not gigging or teaching. (ya know, my kids like
to eat regularly, have doctors available when they get sick, sleep in a warm
house, that kind of thing). Oh yes, I'm married to a brilliant musician
named Kelley, and have 3 awesome kids (Sarah is 12, Tessa is 8 and Josiah
will be 7 next month) who love the Doobie Brothers! I took the whole family
out to the convention last summer, and the kids now proudly display their
Doobie Brothers autographs on their bedroom walls.
I first got into the Doobs when I heard "Jesus is Just Alright" back in
'74 I think. I LOVE any kind of music that blends styles, so I fell in love
with the Doob's music right from the start! Several of the greatest songs in
the world were written by Tom and Pat (in my humble opinion). I saw them
back in '76 and was very disappointed when Tom was not there (who's that
bearded guy playing keyboards?). I did not see them again until the 1st
convention I went to two summers ago. I did get to meet Michael McDonald two
years ago when a band I was working with opened for him at the House of Blues
in Chicago. He was a true gentleman and very humble!
Some of the best folks I've met in my life belong to this fan club!
Alas, I wished I could come out for the convention and meet you new folks,
but, well...
OK, sorry for rambling so much, but you asked for it!
God's peace to all!
Ed C.
