Ok...I guess I'm another one of those lurkers...I
haven't posted anything for awhile...

My name is Doug. I'm 32 (DOB - 01/04/69) and live in
St. Louis, MO. I'm a Sales Automation Manager (don't
ask what it means. I still don't know) for a large,
family owned corporation. I've been divorced for
almost a year now and have a great 3 year old son
named Taylor. As of right now, I'm planning on making
it to LA for the convention. How did I come to be a
Doobies' fan? Here's the story...

I was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (hence the
nickname "lonegator"--meaning the only family member
born in Florida) and grew up in Lake City, Florida.
My favorite relative was my uncle Sammy from Missouri
who went to high school with Mr. McD. Being the
youngest of three boys (and quite a bit younger than
the other two), I was often left out of stuff because
I was "too young". Whenever Sammy came to visit or
when the family traveled to Missouri, he always made
me feel special and went out of his way to spend time
with just me. I can remember riding around in his
jeep listening to the Doobs. He'd give me details on
the songs and tell me who was who in the band. Those
were fun times!

Sadly in 1980, about a year after his father (my
granddad) was killed in a car accident, Sammy took his
life. Soon after that, my family decided to move to
Missouri. My mother had kept quite a bit of Sammy's
stuff and, during the move I came across his Doobies'
collection. My mom agreed to let me have it all and
it's been in a safe place ever since.

During those next 21 years, my musical tastes have
changed drastically (two of my current favs are Dave
Matthews and Everclear) but one thing has remained
constant--the Doobie Brothers. I've always loved
their music and thanks to this fan club, have come to
love them as people (along with their many other
fans). For any of you newbies, stick around for
awhile and read some of the stories that get posted
about these guys. You'll find that the Doobie
Brothers are more than great musicians...they're great
people.
