Ok Laurin,You've gor my attention, what the hell song is that!

Title: Thank God for the Doobie Brothers...

A friend of mine sent me a 7 disc CD set called "Have a Nice Decade, the '70s Pop Culture Box".  160 songs from the 1970s...while there are some GREAT songs  in this box ("Long Train Runnin'"," Free Bird", "Ridin' the Storm Out", & "Lady"), they seem tremendously out of place.  The box by-and-large consists of the schlock of the 1970s..."Billy Don't Be a Hero", "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo", "The Night Chicago Died", "Kung Fu Fighting", Rhinestone Cowboy", etc...you get the idea...

Listening to the sugary music on these CDs is enough to send you into a diabetic coma...I mean, check out the quality lyrics of this song (which incidently WON 2 GRAMMY AWARDS):

"Started out this morning feelin' so polite I
always thought a fish could not be caught that would not bite,
but you've got some bait awaitin' and I think I might
like nibblin' a little..."

What the?!?!?!

(Note:  If you can readily identify this song, are you sure you're on the correct list serve?)

1) Thank goodness the 70s are over, but most importantly,

2) THANK GOD WE HAD THE DOOBIES AS AN ANTEDOTE TO THIS KIND OF POP SCHLOCK DURING THE 70s!!!  What did the Doobies give us?  Great guitar solos (as recently described on the list) and fantastic writing that was produced to perfection!

I'm gonna listen to the "Long Train Runnin'" box and Bob Dylan's "Bootleg Series, Volume 1-3" all day today ta get grounded back into reality!

Whew!

Laurin
