Now that just hit a "chord"! Granted, "Sugar Sugar" by The Archies (I still remember the name of that group? ) The group
was the Archies ! I think what you may have meant was that you
did'nt remember who "really" sang it.The voice of The Archies? Ron
Dante . . . Ron sang on the Detergents hit, Leader of the
Laundromat . . . Toni Wine was the girl's voice on the song . . . Ray
Stevens was one of the handclappers Ron went on to be the musical director
and co-producer of Barry Manilow . . . the group Sakkarin (a Jonathan King
concoction) had an instrumental hit with the song in the mid-70's . . . The
Monkees has a chance to record the song two years earlier, but they turned it
down . . . Wilson Pickett also recorded a Soul version . . . Dante now works as
a Broadway producer and in the music publishing business . . .
For
those who care, this song was the anthem at Pioneer High School and a personal
favorite of Scott Elsberry in the early 70's and not Branham as he would
lead you to believe, although Scott will may vehemently deny this. . . .
