Ah, thanks Ronald!  I couldn't find the debug window in the Mac client,
but I had started playing with the Linux version.  (I was mostly trying
to avoid having to re-sync the Linux client's chain!)

Anyway, I ended up creating a new temp wallet at blockchain.info, where
I was able to enter the paper private key and then send the balance to
an address from my Mac Qt client.

I'll certainly spend more time picking a client that has the features I
need before I use BTC for any serious amount of money.
