It lasted until around 2008, when I bricked it while attempting to upgrade the firmware. (If this had happened today, I might have the skills to resurrect it. Oh well.) I have 2 of the newer USB models, purchased in 2006(?) and 2011. I've had no mechanical issues with either one, yet.
