People with the small lasers can mark plastic and wood. If the aluminum is anodized you can mark it too, it will vaporize out the dye on the metal. You can also mark painted aluminum with a small laser.
Other options for cutting aluminum are things like water jet, IRC aluminum does a good job, I have used them a couple time to cut up aluminum parts, though I think there minimum charge is around $125.
