Not really; it just says it fails to read the disc.

Yes I can rip to ogg.  The problem seems to be apparent with all of my CDs, 
including ones I did ages ago.

I tried cdparanoia.  It also couldn't read the disc.  Not only that, Dolphin 
can't read it either, so it looks as if anything that depends on the OSs 
ability to read an audio CD fails and (presumably) K3b itself (not lame, which 
it calls), uses it's own routine.
